INTERCULTURAL DIALOGUE INSTITUTE REGINA 4^TH ANNUAL FRIENDSHIP AND DIALOGUE DINNER

IDI Regina has organized its 4^th Annual Friendship and Dialogue Dinner at the Hotel Saskatchewan. Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Her Honour the Honourable Vaughn Solomon Schofield, the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Hon Ralph Goodale, the Minister of Parks, Culture, and Sports Hon Mark Docherty, MPs and MLAs were in the attendees. The other participants were Regina civil society leaders, Regina Police Department executives, RCMP executives, and lots of academicians from University of Regina. The program`s theme was `Raising a Generation of Peace Builders` .

The 4^th Annual Friendship and Dialogue Dinner of IDI Regina was held on March 15, 2016 at The Hotel Saskatchewan. There was a high participation to the dinner. The Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, high ranked politicians, top level security officers, Regina civil society leaders, and academicians were ready for the program. The program`s honourable guest was the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Her Honour the Honourable Vaughn Solomon Schofield. There were a federal minister and two MPs, a provincial minister, some MLAs, and MLA candidates. The MC of this special dinner was J C Garden from CTV News Regina. The president of the University of Regina, Dr Vianne Timmons, was the keynote speaker of the program that the theme was `Raising a Generation of Peace Builders`.

The program started with welcome speech by Mr Mustafa Erdem on behalf of IDI Regina. Mr Erdem gave some brief introduction about the IDI foundation and what it aims to build.

Lieutenant Governor Her Honour the Honourable Vaughn Solomon Schofield was invited to the stage to make her opening remarks. She has referred form previous years` dinners and has emphasized the importance of what IDI foundation has done for the residents of Saskatchewan. She thanked the members of the foundation for their efforts.

The federal minister of public safety and emergency preparedness Hon Ralph Goodale has invited to the stage. He has shared his remarks about IDI Regina foundation and thanked all directors and volunteers of the foundation due to their contribution and involvement to the public safety.

MC has invited MPs and MLAs in order of MP Cathay Wagantall, MP Erin Weir, Provincial Parks, Culture, and Sport Minister Hon Mark Docherty, NDP Deputy Leader Trent Wotherspoon, and City of Regina City Councillor and Deputy Mayor Mr Mike O`Donnell to make their remarks. All speakers have inferred about IDI Regina`s positive contributions to the Saskatchewan`s multicultural society, and they all thanked to IDI foundation.

The program continued with serving the special dinner. Baklava and stuffed leaf which are the most popular dishes in Turkish cuisine have served to all guests.

The president of University of Regina, Dr Vianne Timmons, was invited to the stage to make her keynote speech about the theme of the night. In her speech: “Tolerance is something we have to teach, to dialogue, to solve disagreement, diversity. Every peace builders need to talk about racism. We need dialogue more than ever to fight with racism, intolerance, and raising peace builders. Immigration and acceptance is our future.” After her speech, Dr Timmons was awarded by IDI Regina and the award represented by MLA Mrs Laura Ross.

There were two special awards of the night. The first award `Raising a generation of Peace Builders` Award” was represented to Associate Prof Shauneen Pete From University of Regina who is dedicated to build peaceful generation and strong efforts fighting against racism. Dr. Pete has outstanding efforts to build harmony among First Nation’s students and integrate them to society. The award represented by Deputy Minister of Education Mrs Julie MacRea.

The second award of the night was `Life Time Achievement Award’. This award is designated to selection focuses on one’s contribution on promoting the development of human values, to advance diversity and multiculturalism over the person’s entire career, rather than intermittent efforts. Professor John Whyte from University of Regina took his award from Deputy Minister of Premier Doug Moen.

Prof. John Whyte: Mr Fethullah Gullen is our age`s Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, or John Vanier.

Prof. John Whyte has visited to M Fethullah Gulen whose ideas IDI foundation is inspired, and he has stressed that “Mr Gulen and I were only talked about education. Mr Gulen said that education is everything; justice, inclusiveness, peace and love.” These are all grounded in the search for knowing; to know better ourselves, our neighbours, our hearths desires, our needs and our neighbours` needs. And he finalized his speech with “Mr Gulen is like Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, and John Vanier in our age.”

At the end of the night, there was a dance group, The Ranch Ehrlo Society, which consists of First Nation children has performed peace dance to the guests. The night was ended by taking a family photo.

İDİ Regina Geleneksel 4. Dostluk ve Diyalog Yemeği

Kültürlerarası Diyalog Enstitüsü Regina da bu yıl dördüncüsünü düzenledikleri dostluk ve diyalog yemeğine başta Saskatchewan valisi olmak üzere bir federal ve bir eyalet bakanı ve çok sayıda federal ve eyalet milletvekilinin katılımıyla The Hotel Saskatchewan da gerçekleşti. Toplumun önde gelen isimleri, sivil toplum kuruluşları temsilcileri, Regina Polis Departmanından ve RCMP den üst düzey yetkililer ve Regina Üniversitesinden akademisyenlerin de katıldığı programın teması `Yeni Nesli Barış Elçisi Olarak Yetiştimek` idi.

İDİ Regina gelenekselleşen dostluk ve diyalog yemeğinin dördüncüsünü bu sene 15 Martta Regina`nın en tanınmış otellerinden The Hotel Saskatchewan`da üst düzey siyasetçilerin, bürokratların, güvenlik birimlerinin ve akademisyenlerin yoğun bir katılımıyla gerçekleştirdi. Bu önemli gecenin onur konuğu Saskatchewan valisi saygıdeğer Vaughn Solomon Schofield hanımefendi idi. Federal bakan ve milletvekillerin katıldığı programda eyalet meclisinden de çok sayıda bakan, milletvekili ve milletvekili adayları da hazır bulundu. Gecenin sunuculuğunu CTV News Regina haber müdürü sayın J C Garden üstlendi. Regina Üniversitesi rektörü sayın Vianne Timmons hanımefendinin ana konuşmacı olduğu programın teması ‘yeni nesli barış elçisi olarak yetiştirme’ idi.

Programın başında İDİ Regina adına hoşgeldiniz konuşmasını sayın Mustafa Erdem bey yaptı. Mustafa bey konuşmasında kültürlerarası diyalog vakfı (İDİ) hakkında misafirlere bilgi verdi ve vakıf olarak amaçlarının ve hedeflerinin neler olduğundan bahsetti.

İlk olarak kürsüye davet edilen Saskatchewan valisi saygıdeğer Vaughn Solomon Schofield hanımefendi önceki yıllarda katıldığı İDİ regina programlarına atıfta bulunarak vakfın yaptığı ve yapmaya devam ettiği işlerin Saskatchewan toplumu için çok önemli olduğuna vurgu yaptı.

İkinci olarak kürsüye federal milletvekili ve toplum güvenliği ve acil durumlar bakanı saygıdeğer Ralph Goodale beyefendi davet edildi. Kültürlerarası Diyalog Vakfı hakkında izlenimlerini paylaşan Goodale beyefendi vakfın toplum güvenliğine yaptığı katkılardan dolayı teşekkürlerini belirtti.

Daha sonra sırasıyla kürsüye federal milletvekilleri Cathay Wagantall ve Erin Weir, Saskatchewan eyalet spor ve kültür bakanı saygıdeğer Mark Docherty ve NDP partisi genel başkan yardımcısı Trent Wotherspoon, Regina Belediye encumeni ve Başkan Yardımcısı Mike O’Donnell davet edildi. Tüm konuşmacılar İDİ vakfının topluma yaptığı pozitif katkılardan bahsettiler ve bundan dolayı teşekkürlerini belirttiler.

Yapılan konuşmalardan sonra misafirler için özel hazırlanmış akşam yemeğine geçildi. Misafirlere Türk mutfağının vazgeçilmezlerinden baklava ve yaprak sarması da ikram edildi.

Yemeğin ardından gecenin konusuyla ilgili konuşmasını yapması için Regina Üniversitesi rektörü sayın Vianne Timmons hanımefendi sahneye davet edildi. Sayın Timmons konuşmasında “Birbirimize karşı toleranslı olma öğretmek zorunda olduğumuz en önemli şeydir. Diyalog kurma, anlaşmazlıkları çözme, çeşitlilik. Bütün barış elçileri ırkçılık hakkında konuşması gerekir. Irkçılıkla mücadele etme, toleranssızlık, ve barış elçileri yetiştirmede diyaloğa hiç olmadığı kadar ihtiyacımız var. Bizim geleceğimiz göçmenlik ve kabullenmedir.” Sayın Timmons a ödülünü Saskatchewan eyalet milletvekili sayın Laura Ross hanımefendi takdim etti.

İDİ Regina 4üncü dostluk ve diyalog yemeğinde iki adet ödül verildi. Birinci ödül ‘Barış elçisi bir yeni nesil yetiştirme’ adı altında Regina Üniversitesi eğitim fakültesinde akademisyen olan aynı zamanda yerli kanadalı olan yardımcı profesör Shauneen Pete Hanımefendiye Saskatchewan Eğitim Bakanı yardımcısı sayın Julie MacRea hanımefendi tarafından verildi. Sayın Pete hanımefendi teşekkür konuşması yaptı.

İkinci ödül ‘yaşam boyu başarı’ aldı altında Regina Üniversitesinde profesör olan sayın John Whyte beye Saskatchewan Başbakan yardımcısı sayın Doug Moen tarafından takdim edildi.

Prof John Whyte teşekkür konuşmasında İDİ vakfının başarılarına ve vakfı program ve aktivitelerine ilham kaynağı olan sayın Fethullah Gülen beyefendiye vurgu yaptı. Sayın Gülenin yanına bir eğitimci olarak yaptığı ziyarette onunla sadece eğitim hakkında konuştuklarını belirtti. `Eğitim herseydir: adalet, kapsayıcılık, barış, sevgi. Bunların hepsi bilgiyi arama yolunda birbiriyle harmanlanmıştır. Kendimizi daha iyi bilme, komsularimizi bilme, kalbi ihtiyaclarimizi bilme, kendi ihtiyaclarimiz bilme, komsularimizin ihtiyaclarini bilme.` Prof Whyte Fethullah Gülen beyi asrımızın toplum liderleri Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela ve John Vanier’e benzettiğini söyleyerek konuşmasını bitirdi.

Gecenin sonunda yerli Kanadalı dans grubu (The Ranch Ehrlo Society) yaptığı yerel danslarıyla izleyenlerin beğenisini topladı. Toplu aile fotoğrafının çekilmesiyle program sona erdi.
